01: discovery
this unique shingle-style home required a sensitive design solution that reflected design elements of the historic structure while providing contemporary functions and features. we catalogued the exterior details and with the client determined that an existing sun porch should serve as the inspiration for this addition. additionally, the existing home did not comply with the city zoning ordinance, thus as an added service we assisted the homeowner in securing a zoning variance.
02: detailing
since the success of this project was going to rely on its details we worked closely with the homeowners to identify use and circulation patterns so that the kitchen and mudroom layouts and features would serve them well now and in the future.
03: delivery
the end result is an inviting secondary entrance that provides an active, yet contained arrival space while enhancing the connection to the garden.
